According to researcher Sophia Chou, an organizational
psychologist at National Taiwan University, there is a common trend among
successful entrepreneurs. Most of them are “realistic optimist.”
Even though
many people assume that optimists have a wrong perception of reality and live
in their own world where trouble and harm do not exist, the truth is that realistic
optimists are out there. In contrast to idealistic optimist, who chooses to
ignore negative aspiration, realistics have the ability to look at the bright
side of the situation, but still accept hard facts and challenges. They see the
glass half full, but possess a pragmatic thinking which creates the perfect
personality type for managing a small business.
“Realistic optimists tend to choose accuracy over
self-enhancement; the unrealistic optimists tend to choose self-enhancement,”
Chou explains in the U.K.’s Daily Mail.
One of the main differences between realistic optimists and other personality types is that they do not feel demotivated by failure. “Every time [realistic optimists] face an issue or a challenge or a problem, they will be creative. They will have a plan A, plan B, and plan C,” Sophia Chou says. Flexibility, determination, and a belief that they’ll find a way to succeed are key characteristics of a successful entrepreneur and if possessed, regardless of the personality type, they will lead to positive outcomes!
